Going boldly into 2020

Floral prints, statement sofas and bold bathrooms; as promised in my last blog post, here is an in depth look at the new styles and trends within the world of interiors for 2020..........

Natural materials - Going into this new decade, something that is very welcome to see is the use of more sustainable materials instead of plastic. Rattan is certainly an example of this as it offers a lightweight and inexpensive alternative to synthetic furniture and also proving to be popular in home accessories and storage solutions.

Green is the new grey - For the past decade grey, in all it’s shades, has been the go to colour and although it isn’t going to disappear completely, pale green is now becoming increasingly popular. Warmer shades such as peach, oatmeal and pink have been gradually replacing grey to create a more natural palette and pale green has now become quite on trend, tying in with the current preoccupation with plants and nature. This shift in colour trends has been showcased by Dulux who have chosen Tranquil Dawn as their colour of the year, you can view it here - try combining it with other tones, painting a room with more than one colour is still very on trend.

Bold coloured bathrooms - The last decade has favoured marbled tiled, all white spa like bathrooms but bold colours and darker tones have slowly made their way in trend. If you think a bold bathroom might be a bit too much but would like to add colour to your room why not try tile paint which is an inexpensive way of refreshing existing tiles and add colour in the form of a pattern.

Statement sofa’s - Although not really seen since the Eighties, patterned sofas are having a comeback - florals, animal prints and geometric designs are all on trend. If these are too bold try a stripe pattern instead.

Florals and ocean motifs - Floral patterns are expected to be on trend this year but not modern and abstract like previous trends, old fashioned delicate patterns are being favoured instead. Another motif that is also proving popular is inspired by the sea - shells, sea grass, sea creatures and coral have been rapidly appearing on home accessories, maybe because of the awareness that has grown in recent years to protect our oceans which is a very positive move.

Please don’t forget to share in the comments below if you have incorporated any of these trends in your own home, it’s always great to hear from you all.
