Halloween Hauntings

The days are getting shorter and the temperature is dropping which can only mean one thing - Halloween is just around the corner again. When I was a child Halloween was hardly mentioned and seemed to just go by without much acknowledgement but over the last few years it has really picked up in popularity and it is now as much of an adults holiday as a child's. I have just completed two spooky flower arrangements for a local retailer and they have prompted my question for this blog post -  are you decorating your home this year for the occasion? If you are, have you thought about the kind of style you want - everyone knows that the traditional colours for Halloween are orange and black but a more modern trend that is becoming very popular is black and white with a touch of silver, this style is ideal for a more contemporary look. Pumpkins are an essential for Halloween, if you find carving them for Jack o lanterns is not a job for you then there are plenty of ceramic pumpkin candle holders that are available instead - for safety, I would always recommend placing battery operated LED candles inside them rather than using real ones; accidents can happen and using these means if your pumpkins get knocked over there is no risk of fire. Flowers are always a great addition to a room and ones for Halloween are no exception; for a traditional autumnal look, use flowers in shades of orange and yellow and include foliage and twigs or for a modern touch, use white and black with silver branches. If you have spare glasses or clear vases you can make quick and easy decorations by adding plastic spiders in them, this is ideal for both the traditional and modern look. Another idea is to use either artificial or real twigs sprayed black as a display - arrange a bunch into a vase and hang bat decorations from them, if you use invisible thread this will really give the impression that they are flying as this thread lives up to its name. I hope these few ideas will help you decide the kind of look you want, if you are based in the South East of the UK then do get in touch as I can provide flower arrangements and venue decorating to make sure your Halloween festivities are a frightful success.
