Although it is not yet winter the evenings are certainly getting colder - add throws and blankets over your sofa and armchairs in shades of burnt orange, brown and gold. These colours will add warmth to your room without looking wintery and gives you something to keep you warm on those cold nights.

Whether Halloween is an occasion you celebrate or not, it's traditional symbol of pumpkins can still be used around the home as it is a typical autumnal item. Use small varieties of pumpkin on your mantelpiece and incorporate dried foliage, pine cones and flowers in shades of orange and yellow.

Not just for winter evenings, start to introduce candle light into your home. The warm glow brings a cosiness to every room and now there are many battery operated candles available that are just as good as the real thing - these are so much safer, especially around children and pets as there isn't a fire risk if they are knocked over.

Changing the art work in your home can also help bring the feel of autumn into your rooms - if you like contemporary work look for art that features reds, oranges, and browns. For traditional paintings look for nature themes with golden yellow, oranges and browns.

Changing bed linen, cushions and rugs in the home with ones in autumnal colours will instantly add an autumn feel to your rooms. Now is the time to change your curtains from your lighter fabrics to your heavier materials which will make your room feel warmer - choose ones in autumn shades to match your décor.

When using fresh flowers in your rooms add foliage and twigs; if using artificial flowers make sure that they are autumnal season blooms or they will be obvious to everyone that they aren't real. Use vases in shades of brown, orange and copper.
