A picture is worth a thousand words....

A sure way of adding interest to your walls and personalizing your space is to add art work or treasured photos. In this modern age it is far too easy to take photos and leave them on our cameras storage card or phones and never print and display them which is a real shame. I absolutely love photography, it has been a hobby of mine since the age of 12, but even I am guilty of this practice - one of my resolutions this year is to print and organize all of my photos and I urge you to do the same! There is more than just hanging your art on the wall, by using different techniques of positioning you can turn your photos/pictures into an eye catching feature display - so here are the many ways you can achieve a professionally styled look for your home..........

Grouping: Hanging a group of four pictures together in a tight space gives the illusion of a larger picture. Make sure the frames are exactly the same and they are in line with each other ( two pictures next to each other with the other two directly below). Use pictures/paintings of the same item e.g. macro shots of flowers.

Offset: Instead of hanging your pictures in a straight line try hanging them slightly offset to each other. This works best when the frames are the same shape; this effect is very informal.

Using a shelf: An alternative way of displaying your art is by using a shelf, allowing them to lean against the wall. This is a very relaxed look and although you can use different shapes and sizes try to stick to a cohesive colour scheme as this will give you the best result for your display.

Mixture of Frames: For a really eye catching effect group together pictures using different shapes and sizes of frame. Do try to keep the arrangement as symmetrical as you can, this allows for each picture to stand out in it's own right.

Tall Piece: Using one tall picture will draw the eye upwards and add a feeling of height to the room - you could also use smaller pictures and hang them vertically to achieve the same effect.

One large piece: you can make the most of a large wall space by hanging one large picture centrally in the space, creating a dramatic effect. Remember that the piece shouldn't be wider than the item of furniture it is hanging above.

Add lighting: use lighting to highlight a single piece - attach a picture light to the wall directly above the picture, this is especially effective above a large item of furniture.

Fill a wall space: Try filling a whole wall, or a large section of it, with a collection of paintings or pictures making a gallery wall. You can mix in different shapes and sizes of frames but do stick with a cohesive theme, whether that is subject matter or colour, as this will ensure it is a more successful design feature.

I hope you enjoy trying out these different methods of displaying your art, don't forget you can share what you've achieved by commenting below, I love hearing from you all.
